Overview
This guide explains how to remove a vehicle door using the Vertical Door Clutch technique with Genesis Rescue tools.
Preparation
- Stabilize the vehicle to prevent movement.
- Ensure patient protection before starting the operation.
- Use a 24-inch spreader for the procedure.
Identifying the Latch and Lock
- Locate the lock and latch by placing your thumb on the keyhole and extending your pinky straight down toward the bottom edge of the door.
- Confirm that the latch and lock are in this position.
- Be aware that modern vehicles may have two locking mechanisms and a latch.

Creating a Separation Point
- Use the spreader to perform the Vertical Door Clutch technique.
- Place the spreader tips between the door and the roofline to establish a firm grip.

Removing the Door
- Always position yourself outside the tool and vehicle to avoid being caught in between.
- Place the spreader at the separation point, ensuring it is properly aligned before removing the door.

Removing the Door from the Top Hinge
- Use a spreader or cutter.
- Place the 24-inch spreader above the top hinge, located at the lower part of the A-pillar.
- Separate the door from the vehicle body.

Removing the Bottom Hinge
- Move to the upper part of the bottom hinge.
- Spreading at this point controls the door’s movement.
- Finally, remove the door from the vehicle body.
This method ensures safe and efficient door removal in rescue operations.
